DISCLAIMER:

With that out of the way:
┌───────────────┐
│ WHAT TFAM IS: │
└───────────────┘
TFAM is a file manager that will happily co-exist with all of Mark's features
and utilities for TRIBBS. It does, however, operate differently from FILEMAN.
FILEMAN will attempt to move the file from its' existant area to the new
area, even if the file is located on a CDRom. This results in a great deal
of hard disk clutter.
TFAM checks to see if the file is on a CDRom. If it is, it moves only the
file description to the new area.
But there's more:
* Global Dupe Checker - checks your entire filebase for dupes
regardless of location. Deletes dupes automatically.
* Automatic CD Install and Delete - All you have to know to install
a CD is the name of the file lists. Works on all file list
formats. The delete function checks to make sure that a file
does not exist on ANY CD in the base before it deletes the listing.
This means that you can delete a CD containing files that are
duplicated on other CD's, and those duplicate files will be
retained, while the non-dupes are deleted from your FILES.LST
files.
* Install of Offline CD's to Mark's new integrated offline file
system.
* Area file editor - With tons of features; sort; edit description;
move; delete; multiple file tag and untag
* Area Order Changer - Allows you to move file areas within the
FAREA.DAT file!
* Alternate path manager
* Unlimited number of file areas, and unlimited number of
files per area

Unpack this ZIP into a directory of your choice and type TFAM. Answer
the questions asked. Install is complete. Before using TFAM, make sure that
you are using the MAKEIDX function of TRIBBS. This function creates index
files that TFAM uses.
┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ DIFFERENCES in FILE MANAGEMENT between TFAM and FILEMAN: │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
TRIBBS suggests that CDRom areas be marked with the CDRom flag, and "pointed
to" by the File Area listing. TFAM will install the area using a different
theory. It will install the File list to a hard disk area, and point to
the same hard disk area for files. You DO NOT turn on the CDRom flag in the
file area definition. This allows files to be added to any area without
problems. The address of the CDRom files is stored in the first Alternate Path
area defined for the File Area.
Operationally, you will not notice any difference in these schemes. There
is, however, one thing that must be remembered: If you install an area,
then move all of the files to other areas (certainly easy to do with TFAM),
and then delete the file area you installed, TRIBBS will never find the files!
TRIBBS needs the alternate path address. To solve this problem, TFAM
offers a service called the Alternate Path manager. It does three things:
1. Moves all of the alternate paths to the beginning of the file
list. This allows you to add and delete areas at the end of
the files areas without worrying about accidentally deleting
any of the alternate paths. All you have to do to use this
feature is run the A option after each CD is added!
2. Saves the alternate paths to a separate file so that the low
numbered file areas can be moved or deleted without loss
of alternate paths.
3. Restores the saved paths after moves/deletes.
The alternate path manager only needs to be used if you are going to delete
file areas.
BE SURE YOU RUN MAKEIDX AGAIN AFTER USING THE ALT PATH MANAGER!!!!!!
Shareware limitations:
This program is distributed as Shareware. This means you are entitled to use
it for 30 days to see if it meets your needs. After that date, you are
required to either delete it, or to register it. Registration fee is
$20.00. Registration will remove the following limitations:
1. The unregistered version will only install one CDRom. The
registered version will install an unlimited number of CD's.
2. The unregistered version only allows you to move the first
50 file areas. The unregistered version will move ALL areas
into any order.
3. The unregistered version will not perform the Global Dupe Check.
4. The unregistered version will not install CD's to the Offline
File system.
